Eyes on the Prize

Civil RightsJudi Hampton is President of Blackside, Inc, producers of Eyes on the Prize and other award-winning documentaries for public television. Judi uses Eyes as a centerpiece for seminars, workshops, and speeches on leadership.

Eyes on the Prize – created and produced by Judi’s  brother, Henry Hampton –  tells the definitive story of the civil rights era. The film emphasizes ordinary men and women whose extraordinary actions launched a movement that changed the fabric of American life. Winner of numerous Emmy Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, an International Documentary Award, and a Television Critics Association Award, Eyes on the Prize is the most critically acclaimed documentary on civil rights in America.

Originally broadcast in 1987, Eyes on the Prize was unavailable to the public for many years. Judi Hampton led a campaign to raise funds to re-clear the rights to footage in the series so that this incomparable resource could be made available again. As a result, Eyes was rebroadcast on PBS nationwide and reissued in a DVD set.
